An exceptionally well-made and entertaining documentary about Vigo, featuring many of the actors from L’Atalante and Zéro de conduite, along with producers and key technicians. Each one is an interesting and intelligent person with valuable insights and good stories. This 1964 episode of the French TV show Cinéastes de notre temps showcases not only Vigo’s genius, but also director Rozier’s good taste, technical skill, and film literacy. That is, it is nothing like contemporary “making-of” featurettes.
