Life (Espinosa)

Life. Daniel Espinosa, 2017.
😿😿
Edition screened: Columbia Blu-ray, released 2017. English language. Runtime approximately 104 minutes.

Summary: Depiction of a rat being killed horribly.

Details: A laboratory rat is attacked by the alien life form. We see the entire (computer generated) decomposition of the rat, 34:18-34:38.

Life demonstrates one sure-fire way to let an audience know just how shitty a movie is going to be in the first four minutes: Load up dialogue with cutesy trend references, such as characters saying “spoiler alert” and accusing each other of having OCD. You don’t /need/ to make movies current. They are current sua sponte, and adding transient low-end references makes a film immediately dated and passé.

This Columbia Blu-ray has an especially long Parade of Garbage before you are allowed to access the Menu screen, including previews for the cast interviews in the Options department. I thought I would die of exhausted boredom before this movie even started.
