Although not as charming as Horror Heaven made two years later, Blutige Exzesse is another early film that shows Buttgereit’s innate understanding that special effects do not need to be extremely realistic to be artistically and visually satisfying. I rarely say “I liked it when … ”, but I did like it when Hitler’s eviscerated corpse was reveled to be filled with crumpled newspaper.
