The opening scene depicts a snake that has just swallowed a chicken egg, being picked up by a hawk. A man who happens to be Quentin Tarantino shoots the hawk causing the bird to drop the snake. He catches the snake in the air and slits it open to retrieve the egg. We see a depiction of the snake being slit open but not of the hawk being killed.
Very easy to skip the first one minute of this movie if you so choose. The action described is not visually or narratively interesting. It is a formulaic opening for Miike, and serves mostly to establish Quentin Tarantino as our narrator.
