Details: In chapter 8 of 10, “Lightning!”, Nicky and Jonathon are assisted by a gentleman who has been hunting in the woods and carries two large hares by the legs, 15:10-16:45.
The rabbits and the handsome woodsman’s romantic clothing seem a bit out-of-place in 1970s England. In fact, Nicky and Jonathon have just escaped a village that has regressed to witch-hunting mentality, and now are aided by this kind agrarian man and his wife whose pagan beliefs are manifest in generosity and courtesy, rabbit hunting aside.
