Summary: Much of this film was shot in Parisian slaughterhouses and consists of detailed images of horses, calves and sheep being killed and dismembered. The footage is extremely graphic and unflinching.
One point of the film is to contrast the real horror and suffering in a slaughterhouse with scenes of insipid people eating lamb chops in fancy restaurants. The film does not, however, promote a message of compassion toward animals. The implied theme is more about the men who work in the slaughterhouses; a study of their faces, bodies, and their interaction with the dead animals and machinery.
