Summary: Cruelty to a rat.
Details: A pet white rat is submerged in a glass container of clear liquid, 27:05-28:12, to demonstrate underwater breathing. She struggles briefly as though drowning, then begins to breath the liquid. She is removed from the container and returned to her owner. This rat in The Abyss survives all dangers faced by the human crew members, and we see her on her owner’s shoulder at the film’s end.
